AMA superbike finale….

it’s no secret that i love star trek. despite previous rambling i even started to enjoy Voyager. although most great quotes in star trek come from klingon proverbs (today is a good day to die) or ferengi rules of acquisition (#211 – Treat people in your debt like family… exploit them.) this week Tuvok, the Vulcan from Voyager, delivered a quote about parenthood that i found pretty accurate given the crazy mood swings ingrid has these days. he says, “offspring can be disturbingly illogical, yet profoundly fullfilling, you should anticipate paradox”.
“you should anticipate paradox”, classic. to translate for you non parents, it means one minute your kid loves you like a superman disguised as a teddy bear with a fistful of candy and the next minute they are balls of rage saying “I HATE YOU, YOU ARE THE WORST DADDY EVER”.
it never really stops being funny, but it does get tiresome. although we live in different times, the words of my elders can be heard in the back of my mind…”oh yeah…i’ll give you something to cry about”
ever have that one amazing girlfriend, for like a month, who was way hotter than you really deserved, totally insane in bed and put a dumb smile on your face every time you saw her? she lit up your life in a way that made you dig deep into your wallet to buy her all the wonderful things she deserved, but it didn’t matter. then suddenly without warning, she broke your heart and left you?
yeah well me neither, but i did have this affair with an amazing motorcycle — a 2002 KTM DUKE II. she was totally insane. before everyone thought the DRZ 400 SM was so cool there was the KTM Duke. ruined only by it’s dumb streetbike front fender this bike was no single cylinder Ducati Monster, it was a true motard….in sheep’s clothing. it was clearly a bike before it’s time and considering the money i dumped into my old DRZ 400 i don’t know why i just didn’t buy this in the first place.
anyhow, 2002 and older models are prone to clutch bearing failure, a fact that i found out about a bit too late. so a few weeks ago things went from bad to worse, the bearing failed and the engine self destructed in a clackity and oily mess. in a way i think she was getting back at me for having thoughts about dumping her. as much as i loved her, with our impending RV trip i wanted to get something smaller and more dirt capable, so i was planning to sell her.
to deny me the break up i wanted, she dumped me instead. depressed and alone, i decided to sell her for cheap on craigslist instead of going trough the trouble of parting her out. i listed it for $2000 and had a flood of interest. in a matter of days some nice guys from scotts valley arrived with a truck, a ramp and $2000. they tried to get me down to $1800, and i can’t blame them, but i knew they were getting a deal and $200 isn’t chump change. i had said $2000 firm…i wasn’t joking. besides i knew they didn’t come without $2000 :).
so here’s to my old girl, it was fun, it was nasty, in a few years i might give one of your sisters a ring.

the best part is that her drawings look just like this…

I’m almost home but had to make a stop for gas. I took a pic of the damages to commorate my uncle’s bday (he’s a bit obsessed over gas prices). how’s that for a fill up Gary ???
… that’s not even a full tank!!

well, it’s been a battle but we finally bagged us an RV! we found one near Bend OR that was a little smaller and older than the 39c we tried to buy. no worries though, it should be a good match for us.
my friend chris was kind enough to loan me his BMW GS for the ride up here. it was a great bike for the ride and the throttle lock was nice to have. yesterday it was hotter than all hell riding up I had to make a few stops just to hydrate and cool off. at one station I even convinced them to let me stand inside their walk in cooler.
anyway my lunch has arrived. l8r!
