Pooped after the party

Monday, July 20th, 2009

We celebrated Ingrid’s 5th birthday today at my sister Tana’s house here in California. Ingrid’s real birthday isn’t for another month but I knew she’d want her cousins at her party, and we’ll be on the road in August.

I planned the party yesterday and Andrew and I busted our butts today (got lots of help too). It was a Tinkerbell pool party. We had balloons, streamers, glitter, pool toys, and all of Ingrid’s favorite songs. I baked three 8-inch chocolate cakes and one cake in a bowl. Punched a hole with a cookie cutter in each cake and then stacked and frosted. Stuck a Tinkerbell doll in the middle and filled the hole. Then Andrew took over and smoothed my green frosting and piped beautiful lacy accents and bows. I love the way our cake turned out!

After Ingrid opened her presents, I reminded her to give everyone a hug. She turned to me and said: mommy I’m going to give you a hug too, because you worked hard to make me this party! She’s such a sweetie!

whole new world of color…

Friday, July 17th, 2009

So, as our last post mentioned we painted our RV….again! In our first attempt at painting we tried to go with the green colors of the blinds/curtains but we ended up with a olive drab cave. It was not good. On top of that the paint was way to matte and quickly became very grimmy and dirty from the dogs and general close quarters of RV living. We needed a change.

At first we were going to repaint it green but in semi gloss, but after a few stroke of paint we knew we wanted something different. I had bought some nice yellow paint for the bathroom and decided to try that out on the wall. It looked great, so we just went for it.

Despite the small space of an RV it still took all weekend since it is a lot of edge work. We did the bathroom in a seafoam blue and got new towels to brighten that up a bit as well. In addition to the painting I finished reupholstering the dinette which came out nice and orange and replaced the ratty carpet in my office with a plush lime green shag rug i got at IKEA for $50. It all came out great! We also ditched silvia’s black fabric guitar case that used to hang on the wardrobe wall like a black hole.

Since my SLR has no idea what wide angle even means, I took some pics and merged them together for the full view. they are a little choppy, but you get the picture. I’ve included a few before shots as well to see the before and after…

It’s time to change things up in our little house- going from military olive to a bright sunny yellow. Andrew finished reupholstering our dinette this morning and we are lovin’ the new look.

Setting up camp

We’re getting good at this…

We just arrived in Carmel where we’ll stay for two nights. It’s pricey but very scenic. There’s a little creek close by and this park is decorated very quaint, just like one of those little B&Bs.

On the way we stopped at Target, one of my favorite stores. I know it’s an evil corporation but I hadn’t shopped there in weeks and I went a little crazy. Ingrid picked out a purse and wallet for me for my birthday. She also talked us into replacing Olive, her beloved baby doll. Old Olive couldnt make sounds anymore, so we picked out a new Olive at Target. When we got home I put old Olive into the Goodwill sack. Olive (Ingrid) said: Bye mommy, I love you! Ingrid said: I love you too! That was it.

I’m busy now reorganizing the RV while Ingrid colors in her Hello Kitty book.
