What a beautiful day

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I threw the ball for the dogs and Ingrid played helicopter on the lawn. It’s actually more fun than it looks, playing fetch with 5 large dogs. All of Eric’s dogs go willingly into the pond to fetch the ball, as well as Ginger. Otto just watches from the edge. Andrew and Eric went out mountain biking this morning and now they’re getting ready to go out on the motorcycles. You just can’t stay inside with weather like this!

bats in the cabin

We’re celebrating the season by making crafts. Yesterday, it was these crazy bats, made from a black feather boa. They turned out just OK. I want to find a witchy craft, and maybe some ghosts. I saw some haunted house kits at the store (edible, like gingerbread houses), but I don’t know how I’d pull that off with two dogs and a cat in the RV. We’ll probably visit a pumpkin patch soon too.

it’s costume making time

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Can you guess what we’re going to be? Hint: each costume has ears, a tail, and a belly. The brown one at the top is Ingrid’s, the grey one is Andrew’s, and the white one is mine. I spent all day making these. It never ceases to amaze me how much time, materials, and effort go into home made things… and at the end of it all you have just a little pile of goods. Of course the real value was in the time spent choosing, imagining, and then creating. It was actually wonderful sitting together at Eric’s big table, each person working on their own thing but also contributing to the costume project. One of those days where you don’t know where the time went.

Dogmania!

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Ginger and Otto are rooming with Tucker, Otis, and Maggie while we visit Uncle Eric. The labs seem to have a calming effect on our dogs. But Ginger and Otto are showing their cousins some bad tricks, like how to whine incessantly, how to dig their way out of a kennel, and how to steal rawhide bones when you get locked in the garage.
