Painting with Grandpa
When my dad told me he wanted to make a painting with Ingrid, I jumped at the chance. Not only would she get to know another side of Grandpa, she would also learn in detail about something she already loves. Since painting with him, she has learned to hold the paintbrush in different ways to achieve different looks. She has learned what different looking brushes are used for. She has learned how to mix colors. And techniques for making sky, mountains, fur, etc. She and Grandpa typically paint for 4-5 hours at a time. My dad was pretty impressed with how long Ingrid could focus on her project. I’m not surprised because her preschool teacher said the same thing.
Today they will finish Ingrid’s jaguar. Grandpa had asked her what she wanted to paint and she said maybe a lion. After looking through some of his books, she picked out two animals. He asked her: Which one do you want to paint Ingrid? And she answered: We’re going to paint them both. My dad thought that was funny. So it looks like there will be another painting coming soon.
