whilst working away i saw a techshop employee walking by with a MAPP gas torch, i had lost mine there a month or so ago and i asked to see it. upon further inspection i concluded it was in fact mine but the dude said it wasn’t and wouldn’t return it. claiming it had been there for six + months. which i know is bullshit because the only reason i brought mine in the first place is because when i needed a fucking torch there was none to be found! so anyway, i decided not to fight it since i had already replaced the lost torch with a shittier version and i didn’t want two anyway.

but then, as i worked away, i got more and more pissed off at how fucking smug he was about the whole thing. i mean, i fucking know it was mine and he didn’t even entertain the idea that it could be. i live in a fucking 37 x 8 foot space, i don’t just misplace things where i can’t find them when i look for them. the last place i had my MAPP torch was at techshop and before i lost it there i had used it consistently for over a month while i wired up my RV’s battery bay, so i was very familiar with it’s ragged looks and wobbly tip.

so i went home for lunch and told silvia about the whole ordeal, she said i should just write my name on it with a sharpie on the bottom when he wasn’t looking, then confront him again. then i remembered that i was going to be there until they closed and he was there when they opened, so i knew he’d be going home at some point :)

since i’m really not a total ass i took my shiny new and mostly full (but with shittier ignitor) MAPP torch back with me to techshop. when he left, i walk right into their employee only stash and swapped the two and walked out with my torch. it’s funny because i know it’s mine, and i even gave them the other one, but it still felt like stealing. i’d just love to see the look on that dudes face when he realizes i snagged it.

if anyone from techshop is actually reading this don’t freak. it’s just a MAPP torch, and by my count you’re still up one torch. i’ve taken techshop tools home on accident and i’ve always returned them, i’d expect no less if i’d left one of my tools there, but sadly i got less than i expected.

to anyone else reading this, techshop still rocks and as long as they don’t ban me or something stupid, i’ll be back there again in no time.
