The RV

These galleries are for showing off our RV as well as other cool RV’s we’ve seen.
Our rig is a 2001 Fun Mover super-C named Oscar. It is based on a Ford F650 chassis and has a cummins ISB motor with an alisson 5 speed transmission. We bought it mainly because we wanted an RV with a garage so we could take our motorcycles along with us. We also wanted the garage so we could subdivide it to give us a tiny office/dog room. The layout is a bit cramped but we manage. We initially considered the smaller c-class Fun Movers based on the E450 van but we decided to go big to get more cargo space, more power and more living space since our RV includes one drivers side slide-out.
Of course going “stock” isn’t how I like to roll, so before getting on the road we had to spend some time getting the RV in live-in shape. The first mod was adding a Datastorm data satellite dish. This gives us consistent internet access anywhere in the US (as long as there are no trees). It was not a cheap upgrade, but the monthly cost aren’t bad and I would go nuts if I had to rely on campground wifi and 3G cellular connections. After that we installed a custom battery bay and 2000w inverter, then focused on the interior, taking it from drab to fab.
Living in a RV is a unique lifestyle. Shedding yourself of all the crap you own is very liberating. When you drive down the road you aren’t just traveling, you’re moving. Moving your house, moving your life, to a new place you’ve never been to. Once you get there you could leave the next day, or stay for a few months. To quote Buckaroo Banzai, “No matter where you go, there you are.”
